Guitar Ensemble Curriculum
Class: Acoustic Guitar Ensemble
Level: Beginner to Intermediate
Duration: 12 Weeks
Class Format: 2 Hours/Week

Hour 1: Music Theory and Analysis: Dive deep into the building blocks of music, exploring concepts like scales, chords, and key signatures. Gain a solid understanding of musical structure and theory.

Hour 2: Instrument-Specific Repertoire: Apply your newfound knowledge to practical instrument playing. Work on a variety of repertoire pieces, honing your technique and developing your musical expression.


Week 1-4: Building a Foundation
Basic Music Theory:
Staff notation
Note values and rhythms
Major and minor scales
Basic chord structures (major, minor, and 7th chords)
Guitar Techniques:
Proper hand positioning and posture
Basic strumming patterns
Fingerpicking techniques (alternate picking, arpeggios)


Week 5-8: Ensemble Playing
Ensemble Repertoire:
Simple ensemble pieces (duets, trios, quartets)
Focus on blending, timing, and dynamics
Explore different musical styles (folk, pop, classical)
Improvisation Basics:
Pentatonic scales and blues scales
Simple melodic patterns and licks


Week 9-12: Performance and Advanced Techniques
Advanced Techniques:
Barre chords
Hammer-ons and pull-offs
Slides and bends
Performance Preparation:
Rehearsal for a final performance
Stage presence and performance etiquette
Feedback and evaluation


Additional Activities:
Listening Assignments: Explore a variety of guitar music, from classical to rock and jazz.
Group Projects: Collaborate with other students on group compositions or performances.
Guest Musicians: Invite guest musicians to share their expertise and perform with the ensemble.
